TSI, an American company that develops and manufactures technology for high-precision measurements in the field of fluid mechanics, such as particle motion in space, airflow, fluid dynamics and combustion diagnostics, has come to market with a new product that is suitable for measuring flow distribution and aerosol transport during coughing and sneezing or for the study of turbulent flow and will be used mainly in laboratories with wind tunnels or water channels.
It is the FM-1000 Quantitative Flow Visualisation System.
It is a low-budget turnkey solution for fast and accurate velocity field measurements in fluids with high spatial and temporal resolution. The results obtained with this system provide useful statistical information such as average velocity field, vorticity, etc., as well as temporal animations with detailed information on the vortex trajectory and the evolving regions of high and low velocity (velocity range < 5 m/s).
The FM-1000 system consists of:
- Continuous 2.5W laser with integrated light-sheet optics permanently fixed to the laser
- Phantom VEO710-18 GB high-speed camera with 1280 - 800 Px high resolution and high frame rate of 7400 fps (2600 Hz) at full resolution; equipped with lenses
- Universal laser pulse synchronization system
- Insight 4G software package with 2D PIV module for data acquisition and processing (license is free and not locked to the camera)
- BG-1000 bubble generator for creating seed particles from a mixture of water and surfactants (optional item)
This "starter package" can be upgraded in the future to a higher system (full PIV, Stereo PIV or Time-resolved PIV) by adding e.g. a pulsed laser, more cameras, etc.
