Positioning system for active alignment of opto-electronic components
In March 2018, we helped Argotech a.s. to select a suitable solution according to the customer's specifications and subsequently delivered a complete positioning device for active justage of optical fibre signal in the production of opto-electronic devices. The manufacturer of the positioning tables is the German company Physik Instrumente. The configuration enables optimal coupling of the optical signal between the photonic chip and the fiber array - both horizontally (using grating couplers) and vertically(edge coupling).
Two systems were supplied - one for 6-axis alignment, consisting of a compact miniature hexapod complemented by a high-precision NanoCube piezo system for fine-tuning at the nanometer level. The assembly also included several linear, vertical and rotary stages for camera positioning.
The second system consisted of "stacked"XYZ stages, a NanoCube piezo system for ultra-fast alignment, and a mechanical interface that guided the NanoCube to the center of rotation of the WT-90 goniometer, which was also part of the second assembly.
Included in the delivery were the necessary control units, including the extensive development libraries needed for successful implementation into the production assembly.
Integration into the unique production facility was handled by Argotech.

L-511 - High precision linear stage with travel range from 52 mm to 155 mm, non-contact optical reference sensor with direction sensing in the middle of the travel range. High travel accuracy (in the nm range) and high load capacity (500 N) ensured by the use of recirculating ball bearings
L-310 - precision vertical stage with a load capacity of up to 10 kg, integrated high-resolution encoder and high travel stiffness
DT 80 - compact rotary table with unlimited travel range, repeatability of 175 µrad and speed up to 40°/s
WT 90 - motorised precision goniometer with 90° rotation range, 8 kg load capacity and repeatability up to 2.7 µrad
