Hexapods from Physik Instrumente are multi-axis positioning platforms that allow movement typically in 6 axes, specifically three linear and three rotary, giving a total of 6 degrees of freedom. Hexapods are designed as parallel kinematics, thus multiple actuators, motors, move simultaneously during positioning.
An analogue of the hexapod with a slightly different arrangement of the individual axes are the so-called SpaceFAB platforms, which are based on three supports, each positioned by two linear tables in an XY arrangement. This concept allows a greater range of linear motion.
Key features of parallel kinematics
- Compact design
- High structural rigidity
- Large internal aperture
- Low plate weight hence low inertia
- Excellent dynamic properties
- Only one power cord
- Comprehensive software
- Possibility to adjust the pivot
The Hexapody and SpaceFab platforms are available in various versions such as:
- Non-magnetic design
- Vacuum version
