Laser Safety Screen

Mobile laser screens represent a durable and flexible barrier for defining laser workplaces. It is an ideal solution for workplaces with high-power Class 3B and 4 lasers, where mobility and easy setup of the protective zone are required during service, modifications, or maintenance. The screen is designed for maximum personnel safety near high-power fiber, Nd:YAG, and CO₂ lasers.

Product Description

Our standard model of mobile screen serves as a high-quality means of secondary laser protection. The assembly consists of three robust sections measuring 1.2 x 2.3 m, which together form a continuous barrier 3.6 meters wide. The entire surface of the screen, including support frames and stabilization legs, is finished with matte black paint to eliminate specular reflections and ensure that the incident laser beam is scattered or absorbed by the screen surface.

Aluminum sheets as infill guarantee solid protection - protection levels according to the EN 12254 standard for selected wavelengths in the table below:

Wavelength Beam Diameter Exposure Time Protection Level
532 nm 900 µm 100 s D,AB7
1070 nm 900 µm 100 s D,AB7
10.6 µm 950 µm 100 s D,AB5

The base consists of stabilization legs; if necessary, we can supplement them with castors for easier handling, e.g., across an industrial hall. The entire system is designed to be easily operated and set up by a single worker.

For screens consisting of multiple sections, we use strips of certified material isoPROTECT-Budget Extra from our supplier Laserschutz to cover potential gaps between individual screen sections. Radiation will thus be sufficiently shielded, even in case of penetration through minimal space between profiles.

Applications

Service interventions on high-power lasers (e.g., Coherent HighLight FL/ARM lasers)

During maintenance, optics cleaning, or process head adjustment, it is often necessary to temporarily bypass the primary housing's safety interlocks. Our screen serves to create a temporary LHA (Laser Hazard Area) zone. Even at reduced diagnostic power, reflection from a test plate poses a risk – the screen acts as the final barrier that absorbs scattered energy and protects surrounding personnel in the hall.

Secondary protection for CO₂ lasers (e.g., Coherent DC series lasers)

CO₂ laser radiation (10,600 nm) is invisible, which increases the risk of accidental exposure. A mobile screen is used as a secondary shield for observation windows or entrances to automated cells. It also acts as a physical barrier separating a noisy and dangerous process (plastic, wood cutting) from clean zones of the hall, while reliably absorbing all secondary IR radiation that could escape through leaks in the primary housing.

Laboratory and Research Setups

In environments where the arrangement of optical paths on experimental tables changes frequently, screens serve for quick and safe division of the laboratory into several independent sectors, allowing multiple teams to work simultaneously.
