The Coherent Matrix 355 is a new ultraviolet (UV) laser that has been specifically developed for the rapidly growing laser marking and coding market for plastics. This cost-effective and compact UV laser offers a wide range of high resolution marking options for a variety of coloured, white and black plastics. It has the advantage of high contrast and minimized thermal damage, which is essential for the medical, pharmaceutical, food packaging and consumer goods industries. The new Matrix 355 laser has been designed with an emphasis on improving the cost-effectiveness, speed and quality of marking processes in these industries.

Powerful and compact design

The Matrix 355 emits a circular TEM00 beam and is available with a power option of 5 or 10 W, with fast pulsing up to 300 kHz. Newer models of this technology deliver approximately 50% reduction in cost and device size. This has been achieved by integrating all the electronics into a compact unit, making it easier to integrate into marking platforms and production lines. The overall dimensions of the laser head are only 160 x 300 x 150 mm and the weight does not exceed 7 kg.

Reliable and powerful

The Matrix 355 is the result of Coherent's extensive research and experience in ultraviolet laser technology. This economical laser offers the high performance and reliability usually found in powerful Q-switched lasers. In addition, it incorporates a number of patented marking features, including PulseEQ, which maintains constant pulse energy regardless of trigger speed, ensuring uniformity and aesthetic quality of the marks produced.

Easy to integrate and use

The Matrix 355 offers users several features that make it easy to use and integrate into a variety of marking applications. These include the ability to output up to 10W with an air-cooled platform, eliminating water cooling issues. Users can also access the built-in web server graphical interface through a standard Ethernet port, simplifying operation. The web server GUI also supports troubleshooting and log generation for remote diagnostic services. Alternatively, the laser can be controlled via the RS-232 port.

Stable operation in a variety of conditions

The Matrix 355 uses a three-point kinematic mounting format, ensuring stable operation over a temperature range of 15 °C to 40 °C. Built-in thermal heaters minimize warm-up time, allowing for fast start-up and minimal standby transition time.
