The client's brief was an optical spectrum analyzer for the characterization of predominantly quartz optical fibers with a minimum spectral range of 350-2600 nm. The instrument had to be equipped with a fiber optic connector and be usable for both single and multi-mode fibers. The spectral resolution had to be at least 0,25 cm-1. It was possible to use 2 separate units (instruments) using the same measurement program to cover the entire required spectral range.
Our solution
For this task we chose 2 optical spectrum analyzers from Thorlabs - OSA201C for 350-1100 nm and OSA203C with a range of 1000-2600 nm. Both instruments use the same measurement program and provide a spectral resolution of 0.25 cm-1. The analyzers contain both a collimated beam input (free space arrangement) and a fiber-optic input with FC/PC connector.
