The Point Spread Function (PSF) is of great importance in image acquisition. The PSF describes the light generated at individual points in the image. With the help of the spread function, it is possible to determine what each point of the sample will look like - if we imagine that the sample is made up of individual points, then in the resulting image, instead of each point, there is a spread function with the intensity of that point of the sample. The relationship between the PSF, the imaged sample and the resulting image can be described using the convolution operation.
