Digital Camera Fundamentals - Andor

Sensors made with back-illuminated technology are guaranteed maximum sensitivity. A light-sensitive layer precedes the electrodes, preventing signal loss in the form of reflection or absorption. The production of this type of sensor is more demanding, but allows quantum efficiencies in excess of 90% to be achieved. It is commonly used in so-called EM CCD cameras and also in more sophisticated sCMOS camera models. The disadvantage of this type of sensor is the higher price due to the more complex technological production.
