High-power diode lasers are used in additive manufacturing, particularly for laser cladding and powder sintering. The operator is exposed not only to the risk of strong reflected near-infrared (NIR) radiation, but also to intense glare from the work bath. The high optical density of the filters ensures safe attenuation of the beam whilst effectively attenuating the dazzling secondary radiation from the process.
