OPA generators (optical parametric amplifiers) convert the wavelength of Ti:S ultrafast lasers into the UV, VIS, NIR and IR spectral regions. They are thus a suitable accessory for the Legend Elite HE+ and Astrella model series of amplifiers. They can be pumped with standard femtosecond pulses (< 110 fs) as well as very short (< 25 fs or < 50 fs) or even picosecond pulses.
Coherent currently offers two variants of OPA generators, which primarily differ in design and possible pumping energy:
OperA Solo is a compact system housed including all higher harmonic frequency generators and mixing stages on one common base and in one compact box for maximum thermal and mechanical stability. Up to 5 mJ of input energy can be drawn depending on pulse length.
The Topas-Prime is offered in several models - Topas-Prime, Topas-Prime Plus and HE Topas-Prime with the ability to pump up to 20 mJ per input. However, this amplifier has some generators or mixing and frequency readout units located outside the main box, so it is not a single compact box.
Since both versions operate on a white continuum amplification basis, very low noise levels are achieved while maintaining maximum output.
