X-ray induced luminescence

The client's brief was to extend the existing FLS1000-DD-stm luminescence spectrometer (Edinburgh Instruments) with a module for measuringsteady-state X-ray luminescence(steady-state X-ray spectroscopy). The module had to allow measurements of both liquid samples in a cuvette and powders and thin films. A further specification was the possibility of future extension of the system with a pulsed X-ray source for time-resolved radioluminescence measurements.

For this task, we chose the N-XS1-CW module (Edinburgh Instruments) for steady-state X-ray luminescence measurements. The emission signal is fed into the spectrometer via a liquid light guide (the module uses the spectrometer's detection system). The measurement is carried out using the single photon counting method. A cuvette holder, a thin film holder and a powder sample holder are included. The set-up can be extended in the future with a pulsed X-ray source for time-resolved measurements.
