ROI(Region Of Interest) is a user-defined square/rectangular area on the CCD sensor that is read and processed as an image. The ROI can be as large as a single pixel. By reducing the size of the image transmitted by the camera, the size of the image is reduced. When the ROI is selected, theread-out window is reduced to an area relevant to the analysis, resulting in a significant increase in frame rate - e.g., if an ROI of 200x500 pixels is applied to a 1000x1000 pixel CMOS camera with a full frame rate of 100 fps, the total area of pixels to be read out is reduced to 1/10 and the frame rate increases to 1000 fps.
