SuperTran

The Janis (Lake Shore Cryotronics) range of flow cryostats for a wide range of applications allows temperatures below 2K to be achieved. The cryostat can be cooled with liquid nitrogen or helium while the sample itself is under vacuum. Each system consists of a cold finger, radiation shield, sample holder, lightweight aluminum vacuum cover and a port for electrical grommets.

Temperature control of the sample is controlled by a heating element which is placed on the 'cold finger' and, in conjunction with an optional temperature controller, allows very precise temperature control.

Key features

  • Temperature range
  • Sample placed in a vacuum
  • Rapid cooling (under 15 min to 4.2 K with liquid He)
  • Continuous operation for temperatures below 4.2 K
  • Possibility of heating and increasing the temperature range up to 800 K
  • Specific design variants for different applications

Parameters

Standard variants of the SuperTran cryostat

ST-100 Optical cryostat with four windows for spectroscopic applications Link
ST-100-FTIR ST-100 variant for FTIR spectroscopy Link
ST-170 Cryostat designed for ESR (Electro spin resonance) spectroscopy. The compact design allows the cryostat to be easily inserted between the poles of a magnet. Link
ST-200 Cryostat with a circular profile (tail) for applications where a square profile is undesirable. These are applications such as resistivity measurements, Hall effect, roentgen diffraction, etc. Link
ST-200-NMR ST-200 variant designed for NMR spectroscopy
ST-300/ST-300T Cryostat designed for space-limited experiments. Variant with optical windows. Link
ST-300-MS Compact cryostat for microscopy for experiments with limited space Link
ST-400 Temperature range 15 K to 300 K.
Cryostat designed for experiments requiring Ultra High Vacuum (UHV). Applications such as ion source cooling or material deposition.
Link
ST-500 Cryostat designed for microscopy, imaging applications and high spatial resolution photoluminescence. Internal vibration isolation ensures high stability in the nanometer range. The design of the cryostat allows the use of short working distance objectives and allows mounting on the microscope positioning system. Link
ST-500-UC Ultra compact version of the SC-500 with an overall height of only 30 mm and a minimum working distance of 2 mm. Link

Application

  • Raman, FTIR, ERS spectroscopy
  • Photoluminescence and microphotoluminescence
  • Microscopy
  • Hall effect, resistivity measurements
  • X-ray and gamma diffraction
