The client specified a luminescence spectrometer (fluorimeter) for low temperature measurements. The instrument had to be able to (1 ) measure steady-state luminescence spectra using the single photon counting method (spectral range of at least 200 nm - 1700 nm); (2) measure fluorescence lifetimes on a time scale of at least 100 ps to 50 µs using the TCSPC method; (3) measure phosphorescence lifetimes on a time scale of at least 1 µs to 10 s using the Multi-Channel Scaling (MCS) method. The spectrometer had to have a guaranteed sensitivity greater than 35000:1, powerful Czerny-Turner monochromators and a spacious sample chamber with access from the front, side, top and bottom. In addition, the fluorimeter must contain a nitrogen cryostat with at least 3 inlet windows and a temperature range of at least 77-500 K.
