The latest generation of PPMS system designed purely as a 'Cryogenfree' system, i.e. a system that does not need liquid helium refilling. The system uses a two-stage pulsed cryo-cooler, both for the superconducting magnet and for sample temperature control. It is an efficient low-vibration sample measurement system with lower operating costs compared to other systems. It is manufactured by Quantum Design, a world leader in cryogenic and superconducting measurement systems.
The innovative gas flow control design has improved cooling performance and temperature stability. The Dynacool PPPMS is capable of cooling a standard sample holder from 300 K to a stable temperature of 1.9 K in under 40 minutes. PPMS is an automated system for measuring magnetic, electrical and thermal properties of materials such as specific heat, magnetic AC and DC susceptibility and electrical and thermal transport properties (such as Hall and Seebeck effects etc.).
The basic PPMS unit consists of a cryostat with a superconducting magnetic coil. A wide range of measurement possibilities is provided by the use of different measuring inserts or sample holders or software modules.
