Illumination module for stabilized HeNe laser with fiber coupling

Key features

Key Feature

Output power > 1 mW

We guarantee > 75% of the laser power at the fiber output of our modules. Typically, this is more than 1 mW.

Key Feature

Laser protection against back reflections

Thanks to the built-in optical isolator, the laser is protected from back reflections, which helps maintain both frequency and intensity stabilization.

Key Feature

Optimization option for output polarization (PER > 30 dB)

The laser polarization orientation can be finely tuned thanks to the integrated half-wave plate, allowing it to be precisely aligned with the slow axis of the output PM fiber.

Key Feature

Optional connector type and fiber length

The most common choice is an FC/APC connector, but other alternatives are also available (FC/PC, SMA, E2000, etc.).

Inspired by customer needs

Stabilized HeNe lasers have long been used in many application areas such as spectroscopy and interferometry. Even fiber-coupled HeNe lasers are not quite new to the market. However, in cases where the collimator is located directly behind the laser output, back reflections can significantly impair laser stabilization (both frequency and amplitude), and it can also be difficult to control polarization at the fiber output. Based on our customers' requirements, we at OptiXs have developed a module that addresses these shortcomings by integrating an optical isolator and a half-wave plate.

Advanced optical design

While the optical isolator protects the laser from back reflections, the half-wave plate allows precise control of the polarization rotation before entering the collimator. In polarization-sensitive applications, this ensures that the coupled laser beam is precisely aligned with the slow axis of the PM fiber used, maximizing the polarization extinction ratio (PER) and achieving values above 30 dB. The module has a service port that allows the user to fine-tune the rotation of the half-wave plate to compensate for any long-term changes in the polarization state. Otherwise, the optical path is covered and protected against contamination.

Despite the more complex optical path, we are able to guarantee > 75% of the laser power at the fiber output for our modules. For HeNe lasers, which typically have around 1.5 mW at their free space output, we can achieve a power over 1 mW at the end of the fiber.

Customization options

Our illumination module typically uses HeNe lasers operating at a wavelength of 632.8 nm (in air) with the option of switching between frequency and amplitude stabilization. The output typically consists of a PM fiber terminated with an FC/APC connector.

However, this product was developed in our custom systems department, which specializes in developing solutions according to customer requirements. Our advantage is our openness to changes and modifications according to your needs. Would you like a different type of HeNe laser, fiber length, output connector, or something else? Don't hesitate to contact us—we will design a solution tailored specifically to your needs.
