Raman-Bundle Raman spectrometer

The modular system for Raman spectroscopy from Ocean Optics offers a high degree of flexibility not only in the choice of the optimal layout, but also in the possible reconfiguration of the set-up. The individual components (laser source, Raman probe, spectrometer, sample holder) can be selected to best suit the application.

Elements of the assembly

1: Fiber spectrometer

The modular Raman spectrometer most commonly uses one of the high-sensitivity fiber spectrometers(QE Pro, Ocean HDX or Maya). A popular choice for the near-infrared region tends to be the NIRQuest.

2: Laser

Raman spectroscopy requires laser sources with spectral purity of output and high stability. The correct choice of laser wavelength depends on the material being studied. 532 nm, 638 nm, 785 nm and 1064 nm are available.

3: Raman probe

The special Raman probe has a dual role, firstly it delivers laser radiation to the sample to excite Raman scattering and secondly it ensures the transmission of the scattered radiation through the sample to the spectrometer. The individual probes are always designed for a specific wavelength (532, 638, 785 or 1064 nm) and differ in the type of connectors used.

4: Sample holder

Ocean Optics offers several sample holders for use in Raman analysis of liquids and solids. Multi-purpose holders are also available that can be used not only for Raman scattering but also for fluorescence, absorbance and reflectance measurements.

5: SERS substrates

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a very promising and extremely sensitive analytical method. Prior to the actual analysis, the measured sample is absorbed by a noble metal substrate. A combination of chemical and electromagnetic effects then amplifies the intensity of the Raman signal. Ocean Optics' affordable gold and silver SERS substrates provide exceptional stability, high sensitivity and excellent repeatability.
