The client requested a confocal Raman microscope with computer-controlled adjustment of the physical confocal aperture in the range of at least 25 µm to 100 µm. The customer needed an active anti-vibration floor for a planned electron microscope, which would be an integral part of the newly built, renovated workplace or laboratory floor. Scientists in the MEL (Materials-Envi Lab) group led by Professor Zbořil at the Center for Nanotechnology at VŠB-TUO are actively engaged in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and its applications in modern low-dimensional materials. Scientists from the synthetic nanochemistry group led by Petr Cígler have long been successful in synthesizing and studying new types of nanoparticles, often with interesting optical properties. The project was initiated based on customer demand for a replacement for a worn-out Ar laser used as an excitation source for a confocal microscope (Leica SP5). The 50 W version does not provide sufficient reserve to maintain deep and stable contrast.
A critical analysis of the measured data shows that, to uncompromisingly meet the requirement for marking complex structures (1D and 2D codes) into difficult-to-absorb insulation plastics at a speed of 2 m/s, the Coherent PowerLine E 30 QT UV system is the minimum technical requirement. Platinum is a fascinating metal – as rare as gold, but with a much higher melting point, making it the ideal choice for processes requiring extreme temperatures. Thanks to modern fiber lasers, cutting platinum is now efficient, with almost 100% material utilization.
